Wabanaki Branding Initiative

Business Program

Many Native-owned businesses never reach their full sales potential simply because they do not have the capacity to find and pursue new markets independently. The concepts “Maine-made”, “Native American” and “Green” all have great marketing value. One way to expand the markets to increase consumer awareness of our Maine Native American made goods is to develop a Wabanaki brand, modeled after the successful Made in Maine marketing campaign used by Maine based companies to promote their products nationally. Our goal is to create an inclusive (across all Maine tribes), nationally recognized brand identified as high quality Native goods and services.

FDDC has successfully applied for funding to engage a seasoned marketing professional to develop a brand strategic plan and identify pilot projects centered on a product or cluster of products to test the brand. These funds will allow us to test market the brand and new Maine Native American products and services in the online virtual marketplace. We will assist businesses in perfecting their products for market, developing packaging and establishing shelf life. Combining this branding process and strategically using funds to increase the production capacity of Maine tribal members, we anticipate sustainable business opportunities resulting in at least 30 more jobs.
